Susannah Stucchio has always been naturally strong. By 13, she’d earned her brown belt from the Kenpo Karate School, and was taking on advanced rock climbing routes with her mother. Kayaking had always been an interest to Stucchio. But it wasn’t until 2000, when she worked odd jobs to send herself to the Junior National Team Spring Training Camp in Florida, that she was really able to get the elite training she craved.

The work paid off. Stucchio burst onto the kayaking scene in 2001 when she won the doubles race to earn a spot on the Junior World Championship Team. In 2003, Stucchio was a member of the World Championship Team and finished 12th in K-4 200m. At National Championships, she came in 1st place in K-4 1000m, 2nd place in K-4 500m and 8th place in K-1 500m. Stucchio has a preference for team boats – she has been a part of the number one K-4 in the nation since 2005. In 2007, Stucchio came within tenths of a second of reaching the finals at the World Cup. However, they managed to best a strong Ukraine team which won bronze in the 2004 Olympic Games.

Paddling for eight years, Stucchio feels she has rediscovered her love of kayaking. She said, “I have a new calm and peace when I’m training. I focus on myself and approach every workout in a new light with a newfound confidence.”

Stucchio still maintains her love of martial arts and rock climbing. She uses her passion for sports to create bonds between athletes all over the world and help them meet their full potential.
