Maggie HoganHometown : Langhorn, PA Birthdate : 01/01/1979 Height : 5’7” Weight : 140lbs Workout Song : You Shook Me All Night Long, AC/DC Maggie Hogan learned to swim before she learned to walk. She practically grew up in the water, swimming competitively through college and working as an ocean lifeguard in San Diego, California. As a lifeguard, Hogan was required to learn to surfski. A friend introduced her to the K-1 as a learning aid, and six months later she made the 2004 Olympic Trials final in the K-1. In 2006, she took 3rd in the K-1 500m and 2nd in the K-1 1000m during the Pan American Games. The next year, she placed 2nd in the K-1 500m and K-2 500m and won the K-4 at the 2007 World Trials. She attributes her rapid rise to the top level of paddlers to her innate knowledge of the water. She explained, “My experience in swimming gave me a good hydrodynamic understanding of racing. That plus a strong work ethic has taken me to the level where I want to be.” Hogan is an all-around athlete in ocean sports. She learned to surfski and is a nine-time national champion in surf life saving. She also placed 5th in Iron Woman at the 2004 World Championships of surf life saving. Hogan is also one of five women in history to complete the Catalina Classic Paddleboard Race in seven hours. Hogan graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in Biopsychology. She now works in cancer research for a pharmaceutical company in San Diego, CA. She loves the ocean, surfing and paddleboarding. |
