Carrie Johnson’s unbelievable physical ability has many placing their Olympic medal hopes on this San Diego native. Johnson has been involved in sports since she began swimming at the age of three months. She has been active in soccer, dancing and diving and was a gymnast for 11 years. Johnson has been kayaking for about eight years, after getting involved through the San Diego Canoe and Kayak Team.

At the 2002 Bochum Junior International Regatta, she finished 9th in K-2 500m, 12th in K-2 1000m and 13th in K-1 500m. She surprised everyone in defeating two former Olympians to gain the K-1 spot on the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team – her previous best in the K-1 finish was 13th. In the 2004 Pan American Games, Johnson paddled her way to 1st place in the K-4. She traveled to Athens to compete in the 2004 Olympic Games, and marched in the Opening Ceremonies.

Johnson attended the University of California, San Diego and graduated in 2007 with a degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry. In addition to kayaking, she enjoys reading, painting and scrapbooking.
