Growing up in Hawaii, Brandon Woods was always in the water. He started ocean canoe paddling with friends, caught on quickly and loved it. In his junior year of high school, he tried surfski and excelled, so he took it to the next level - flatwater racing.

Woods captured 2nd place during the 2003 Pan American Games in the K-2 1000m. He placed 6th in the K-2 500m. During the 2004 World Cup in the Czech Republic K-4 1000m, Woods placed 7th. In 2005, he finished 3rd in the K-1 1000m and 6th in the K-4 500m during the Pan American Championships.

In addition to training, Woods also enjoys surfing, biking and music.
